You are using the wrong vanilla version of Sphax, you have to make sure that you click the correct one. Go back to the downloads and get the Sphax x Sphax is my go-to resource pack for the very reason that it covers most mods. I don't like how minecraft looks by itself, but I enjoy the look of sphax myself.
